Although most data is already in an electronic format, it is very useful to be able to interact with the physical environment. This is what Omnivex IOLink is designed to do.

Short for “Input/Output Link”, IOLink will generate data updates in DataPipe based on incoming events such as pushbuttons being pressed, proximity sensors determining that a person is standing in front of a display, another box rolling off an assembly line, or a fire or security alarm being tripped. These updates can be displayed on screen, or they can trigger completely different content such as emergency evacuation notices to appear.

On the output side, IOLink will monitor DataPipe for specified data values and trigger reactions based on them. These reactions can be playing sound files, sending RS-232 serial commands, or closing relays which could open curtains, dim the lights, and start the movie projector playing. Omnivex IOLink 3 provides an interface between your Omnivex DataPipe 3 network and external devices.

Omnivex IOLink 3 can respond or trigger inputs or outputs to various devices. Contact closures, serial port streams or schedule time based inputs can be used to update Omnivex DataPipe cells. Under the input operation, Omnivex IOLink 3 will monitor an input for a pre-determined action and will update a cell in Omnivex DataPipe 3 when those characters appear.

Content in Omnivex Display 3 can be triggered based on the same cell in Omnivex DataPipe 3. With this combination of Omnivex products, content can be changed instantly based on serial data received from a third-party control system such as Crestron® or AMX® or from a contact closure from specific hardware.
Omnivex IOLink 3 also functions in reverse. If a cell in Omnivex DataPipe 3 changes (triggered manually or by external data), then Omnivex IOLink 3 can send a designated signal out the COM port or through a contact closure to trigger an external device. Alternatively, Omnivex IOLink 3 can play an audio file notifying a user that an event has occurred.

Combine this capability with Omnivex Display 3 interactive capabilities (touch screens or external buttons) and you can build a fully functional kiosk system that not only manages a local device but any number of external devices as well.
